OUR PROGRAMS

Doctors For Need take me to programs page

Our first program is entitled: Doctors For Need. This program is designed to provide relief to the poor, distressed, and underprivileged individuals in Fiji that lack sufficient financial resources to receive adequate healthcare and treatment. We will further our purposes under this program by providing qualified doctors who are available eight hours a day, five days a week. The doctors will provide medical services on a four month basis every year. We plan to assist approximately one patient every half an hour. We hope that each doctor who participates in our program provides care for approximately 344 patients on a monthly basis.

Our program is primarily intended for individuals in dire need of medical assistance, and who lack the financial resources to obtain proper medical care. The application process will be administered by The Southwest College of Medicine in Scottsdale, Arizona. Specifically, our qualified doctors will provide treatments for infections, scabies, hormonal problems, trauma, and other general medical services. The program is sanctioned by the Department of Health in Fiji.

This project is a proactive attempt to assist in health care. The current problem in Fiji of having large hospitals and infrastructure, donated and built by foreign government agencies however, is defeated by not being able to fully utilize it due to lack of doctors and medicine, is being addressed by this initiative.

With urban areas having access to hospitals and private doctors, our focus is therefore on the rural areas and outer islands, where minimal or no service is available.

Our concept is not so much as to ‘treat the symptom’, but to ‘eliminate the cause’ through short to long term research and education into naturopathic medicine.

WHAT IS NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE?

In brief naturopathic medicine is ‘using natural therapeutics and non toxic approaches to therapy’ with an emphasis on ‘disease prevention and optimizing wellness’.

WHO WILL PROVIDE THE SERVICE?

Qualified doctors through a 4 year professional medical degree, in naturopathic medicine accredited by the council on naturopathic medical education (CNME) and the higher learning commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools USA. Graduates are educated in the same basic sciences as MDs including the natural therapeutics of naturopathic medicine.

A HISTORY OF NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE

Founded in Arizona in 1992 as a nonprofit educational institution, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM) enrolled its first class of students in 1993. The first class to receive their medical degrees was in 1996. Since then, SCNM has graduated more than 475 Naturopathic physicians and currently has more than 340 enrolled students, 121 full and part-time faculty, and a support staff of 40 professionals.

SCNM was founded to meet the increasing public demand for quality natural healthcare. The education emphasizes the practical clinical tools necessary to establish a successful practice and best serve patients. The program is eclectic, covering a wide variety of effective, natural therapies including: Nutrition, Botanical Medicine, Homeopathic Medicine, Manipulation, Acupuncture, and Counseling.

MISSION OF NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE

Our mission is to prepare students to become Naturopathic physicians educated and trained in the principles and practice of Naturopathic medicine.  To serve the public by providing quality education, research and natural medical care in the science and art of health promotion, disease management, and prevention based upon these principles.
